On the 06 March 1788 a small group of First Fleeters arrived on Norfolk Island to establish the first European settlement on the Island and claim it for Britain. That anniversary is celebrated each year as Foundation Day with a moving beach-side re-enactment.
In 2021 our celebrations have been expanded to include other major stories from the period that either occurred on, or directly impacted Norfolk Island. Two events of major consequence include the mutiny on board HMAV Bounty in 1789 and the wrecking of HMS Sirius in 1790. Both these events were ‘big’ stories of the time with incredible ramifications for the British Empire and new Sydney Colony.
All the events included will only be available during this special week in March 2021 with a highlight hearing Peter FitzSimons talk on Bligh and Fletcher Christian to decide who was the hero – and who the villain!
Other presentations include a deeper look at First Settlement life on Norfolk Island and the terrible impact of the wrecking of the Sirius, flag ship for the First Fleet, on the reef at Sydney Bay.

Deposit $200 per person
Norfolk Island Travel Centre would like to advise that our booking conditions have been reconsidered for those travelling as part of the First Fleeters and Mutineers event in light of the current worldwide COVID19 pandemic. Normally your $200 deposit is non-refundable, however if prior to final payment date of 20 November 2020 you are prevented from travelling due to either a COVID travel ban or event cancellation due to COVID your $200 deposit can be applied to the next year’s event or will be refunded. Please note cancellations for any other reason will incur our standard booking conditions and cancellation policy.
Full payment is due prior to 20 November 2020. Our package prices are based on bulk purchase airfares with Air New Zealand. These fares have conditions that include final payment being completed no later than 90 days before travel. Airfare is subject to change up until time of ticketing and is non-refundable after issue. Changes are permitted until day before departure however date/route changes can only be made within 7 days travel dates either side of your original booked travel dates. Amendments, upgrades and name changes are NOT permitted within 24 hours prior to departure. Payment of a change fee (per passenger) applies plus any applicable upgrade fees to cover the difference between the original fare and the new fare. Accommodation cancellation penalties apply within 90 days prior to travel. Within 60 days of travel, up to 100% cancellation fees may apply. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect you in some instances for unforeseen cancellation.
Cancellation after final payment and ticketing as a result of Covid19
After final payment, and in the event of a lockdown of the Island or border closure from your destination it is unknown how Air New Zealand will handle issued tickets, however it is likely they will do as they have for other affected Covid19 bookings to date and hold your tickets over as a credit for next year’s First Fleeters and Mutineers event only. Please note Air New Zealand will not provide a refund. Similarly, we would expect accommodation and car hire partners to respond in the same way by holding your bookings as a credit to be used next year. Usually, accommodation cancellation penalties apply within 90 days prior to travel and within 60 days of travel, up to 100% cancellation fees may apply.

If you prefer to pay by Visa or Mastercard please note credit card surcharge of 1.5% applies to AUD prices.
